We find Amata to be an interesting organization. They promote hand crafted products of local artisans and organizes markets around Spain often in cooperation with city halls. About 20 of them each year. No industrial manufacturing is allowed so each and every product you buy is unique.
Amata is short for “asociación para la mejora de la artesanía tradicional y actual”, which translates as Association for the improvement of traditional and contemporary crafts.
Due to pandemic restrictions the number of Amata markets have been few the last couple of years, but they are making a comeback. If you want to support your local community, an Amata market is a good choice. Wondering if there is an Amata event near you anytime soon, just check out their webpage, Next Events.
