Best Bars in the World

We all love our local watering holes, and for various reasons. The selection of drinks, the atmosphere, the service, the view, traditions, distance from home or completely different reasons. And to the extent that you can rate “the best bars in the world” based on objective criteria, this is what the global bar community has attempted to compare. Some of these representatives gathered on 4 October in Barcelona to determine which bars are the best in the world currently. This was the first time they met outside of London for this purpose, and the host city seems to have been a very good choice. Is your favorite Spanish hang out on this years’ list?

Either way, on the list of the Best 50 Bars you will find quite a few entries from Spain, four to be exact. Three of these come from the city of Barcelona which also tops the list. And it has as many as three bars amongst the list of the top ten. A bar from Madrid ranks as Spain’s number four and comes in as number 15 on the global list.

Paradiso

In first place on the global list, you will find a bar with the wonderful sounding name of Paradiso. Located in Barcelona, it has an interesting curved wooden interior where the Best 50 says this about the beverages served: “Drinks don’t look or taste like this anywhere but at Paradiso.” You can read the full description of the experience and find the address and contact information here: Paradiso.

Sips

Sips, also located in Barcelona, slots in at third place. Sips has a modern design and feel to it, and with the island bar at the center, both bartenders and the drinks they mix are part of the entertainment. The Best 50 says this about the show they put on: “… with two of the most box office drinksmiths in the cocktail world holding court, Simone Caporale and Marc Alvarez, it’s quite the spectacle.” You can read the full description of the experience and find the address and contact information here: Sips.

Two Schmucks

Located in the historic and cultural El Raval district in Barcelona, the Two Schmucks bar is a different experience. The Best 50 says this about the charming and characterful venue: “The deliberate disorder stops short of the hospitality, which finds a fine balance between relaxed and attentive service, while the drinks elevate the experience away from dive, with an ingredient-led cocktail menu.” You can read the full description of the experience and find the address and contact information here: Two Schmucks.

Salmon Guru

Moving off of the top ten list, we find the first Madrid-based bar in spot number 15. The Salmon Guru has a comic inspired interior and is well known for its quality of service as a former Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award Winner (2021). The Best 50 says this about the bar: “It was a city of classics, so Salmon goes for crazy serves and techniques – dragon mugs or cocktails aged in salt water, for example.” You can read the full description of the experience and find the address and contact information here: Salmon Guru.
