In an article from CNN.com from 11 March of 2021 you can read about the excavations and findings in Spain’s bronze age culture of El Argar. The El Argar culture flourished between 2200 BC and 1550 BC and was located in Southeastern Spain. It covered roughly an area extending from Eastern Andalucia, to Murcia and included large parts of the Valencian region as well.
The El Argar civilization became important due to its early adoption of bronze providing stronger tools and weapons to develop and secure their society with. Having tin deposits and mining those locally made that possible.
A research team with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona excavating the site of La Almoloya in the region of Murcia have found signs that women played a very important role in ruling the El Argarian society. Graves discovered, one underneath a hall of a palatial building, also contained items belonging both to a man and a woman. And most of these items belonged to the woman. Some were expensive items made amongst other things of silver. Diadems being the most prominent. But jewelry such as necklaces and bracelets were also found. It is suggested that women ruled with men in a more executive role.
