To the West you’ll find Portugal and to the South the English enclave of Gibraltar. In the Northeast, the country shares a border with the tiny Pyrenean mountain-chain country of Andorra as well as France. In addition to the Spanish mainland, the islands of the Baleares in the Mediterranean and the Canary islands of the Atlantic belong to the kingdom. Additionally, the small enclaves of Ceuta, Melilla and Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera are parts of Spanish lands. All three enclaves are surrounded by the country of Marocco. On top of that, Spain owns several tiny rock-islands as well as a small valley to the North of the Pyrenees named Llívia. Less than 13 sq. kilometers (close to 5 sq. miles) and with a population of less than 1500 people, it is completely surrounded by France.

Spain’s geographical make up (source: Wikipedia.org)

JohnE, Find Your Spain!

Like this article?
