La Liga – where do the teams belong?

Spanish football is extremely popular both at home and abroad. Domestically, some people jokingly call it a religion.

La Liga’s actual and formal name is “The Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Primera División”. For sponsorship purposes it is named “La Liga Santander” after Banco Santander, Spain’s largest bank and originally of Santander, Cantabria.

Spain boasts some of the most popular teams in the world with Real Madrid and Barcelona regularly in the top few of the list. But, other teams are also quite popular outside of Spain’s borders.

However, do you know where all teams home grounds are? Not all of them are named after their home towns or cities.

Here is the full size version of the map covering which teams are competing in the top division of men’s Spanish football (also called soccer in the USA) and where in the country these teams belong.
