As previously mentioned, the Spanish economy is among the world’s top 15. Namely, number 13. And number four in Europe if we exclude Russia. You can read more about that here: The size of the Spanish economy.
To many, Spain is first and foremost known for its tourism, clothing brands, wine, food, football, and maybe cars and subway cars/trams etc. But Spain is much more diverse than that, naturally. In 2017, there were a total of approx. 3.58 million companies in Spain – if you now count large and small. Not surprisingly, it is the country’s most populous regions that can boast the most companies and the greatest economic activity: Catalonia, Madrid, Andalusia and Valencia reign supreme. As for the size of the regional economies in the country, you can read more here: Economies of the Regions.
This post provides an overview of where Spanish businesses were most of the located. The information is from 2017 and mainly to give you an overview in which regions the organized Spanish economic activity find their homes. That is before the corona pandemic restrictions hit us of course. How this virus will change Spain’s and other countries’ economies in the long run is a great unknown and will be very interesting to follow.
