The Spanish housing market has its own structure, regulatory framework and composition. According to the INE, the national institute of statistics, the total number of households in the Spain in 2019, was 18.6+ million. An increase of about 0.5% from the previous year. And a large part of the population lives in apartments rather than single family homes.
In this graphic, we take a look at the proportion of Europeans who live in apartments. Spain is close to the top of the list, only beaten by Latvia. Almost 65% of the Spanish population live in apartments while Ireland, Great Britain and Norway have the fewest apartment dwellers.
In comparison, the USA for example has about 120 million households and a total of 136+ million housing units. Of these, 26.2% are multi-unit structures with two or more apartments/condos and an additional 6.2% are mobile homes. Information gathered from census.gov for 2018.
